CARES

Care should never be a privilege.

FlameLily Cares - About

We put women's health and wellbeing at the centre, because care should never be a privilege.

When women's health is ignored or underfunded, the cost shows up everywhere: in missed school days, lost income, untreated pain, and lives put on hold. Yet globally, less than 2% of health research funding focuses on women's reproductive health, even though menstrual and hormonal health affect half the population.

At Flamelily Foundation, CARES exists because women know their bodies, and too often, the system does not listen. We turn what women share about their health into evidence, tools, and care pathways that make support more accessible, respectful, and effective.

This pillar advances SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being by meeting women where they are and working alongside them toward better health outcomes, without shame, silence, or shortcuts.

Why Women's Health Can't Wait

Women's health conditions often show up differently than men's, yet they are studied less, diagnosed later, and treated unevenly. Menstrual health, in particular, affects education, work, dignity, and wellbeing, but remains deeply under-researched and stigmatized.

What we see in our work is simple and consistent: CARES responds by turning lived experience into practical, culturally grounded solutions, not theory.

  • When women lack information, they delay care
  • When care is expensive or far away, they go without
  • When systems don't listen, symptoms are dismissed

Our Approach to Care

We design care with women, not for them. Our work connects research, education, and community trust so care becomes something women can actually access and use.

  • Listening first
  • Testing ideas in real settings
  • Using data to improve, not to distance
Our Programs

RUVA+

BY FLAMELILY

RUVA+ is a research-led women's lifestyle and wellness brand that turns health insights into practical tools women can use in daily life.

The work begins with menstrual health, an area that is often ignored despite being central to overall wellbeing. RUVA+ products are designed with clinical insight, cultural relevance, and women's real physiological needs in mind.

Our long-term work includes the development of a non-invasive diagnostic menstrual pad, designed to help detect signs of conditions like heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) earlier and more accessible. Heavy bleeding affects an estimated 1 in 3 women, yet diagnosis rates remain low due to stigma and limited screening options.

Mavara Framework — Health Education

Mavara, a Shona word meaning footprints, is our community-embedded health research framework. It traces patterns of lived experience, what women notice, manage, and navigate daily, and turns those insights into evidence that informs better care.

In practice, this means listening carefully to women's experiences of menstruation, pain, stigma, and access to care, then using that information to guide product design, education, and referral pathways.

LILYPAD CIRCLES

CIRCLES

BY FLAMELILY

LilyPad Circles are guided, safe spaces where women come together to share stories, support one another, and strengthen mental and emotional wellbeing.

These circles are built on the idea that being seen and heard is part of care. They create room for conversation around menstruation, stress, identity, and health, topics often pushed into silence.

From Research to Real-World Care

CARES connects research to action. Through partnerships with healthcare providers like Karanda Mission Hospital, and through storytelling initiatives like the Silent Epidemics documentary, we help surface health gaps that are often invisible, and work to close them.

This is not about quick fixes. It's about building care pathways that are respectful, practical, and sustainable.
