Dr. Yvonne Bare-Dumbu
A legacy of care, carried forward through education.
Dr. Yvonne Bare-Dumbu Scholars in Health Sciences
This named cohort honours Dr. Yvonne Bare-Dumbu, a doctor who believed that education and healthcare belong together, and lived that belief every day.
Established by her family, the Dr. Yvonne Bare-Dumbu Scholars in Health Sciences make up 20% of the ChiShamiso Bursary cohort. They support learners with academic promise, compassion, and a clear interest in health-science careers.
Dr. Bare-Dumbu cared deeply about people, not just outcomes. During the COVID-19 crisis, she noticed a frightened autistic teenager struggling in hospital. Without seeking attention, she arranged earphones so the child could cope. That small act changed a long, frightening hospital stay.
That was her way: specific, thoughtful, human.
This scholarship continues that approach. It removes financial barriers early and helps learners stay on track toward careers in healthcare, where compassion matters as much as skill.
20% of Cohort
Reserved for students with academic promise in health sciences.
Financial Support
